What Sets Masjid Jamiul Atiq Apart: A Legacy of Faith, Unity, and Service
Masjid Jamiul Atiq stands as a beacon of faith, history, and service in Sierra Leone. Since its establishment in 1876, it has remained a pillar of Islamic worship, education, and community development. Our mosque is distinguished by the following key attributes:
Masjid Jamiul Atiq is the first purpose-built mosque in Sierra Leone, serving as the original central mosque for Muslims in Freetown. Its deep historical roots make it a symbol of unity, faith, and cultural heritage.
From its inception, the mosque has welcomed all Muslim ethnic groups, creating a diverse and inclusive worship space. We continue this tradition by fostering a spirit of brotherhood and togetherness, regardless of background or nationality.
Our Madrasa and Islamic learning programs are designed to nurture young minds, ensuring that Islamic teachings are preserved and passed on to future generations. We also provide scholarships and mentorship programs to empower the youth academically and spiritually.
Recognizing the increasing demand for space and services, we are actively expanding our facilities. The new 4-story building project will provide additional prayer spaces, educational facilities, administrative offices, and a library for community learning.
Beyond serving as a place of worship, Masjid Jamiul Atiq is committed to social impact through:
- Charity programs, including food distributions and financial aid for those in need
- Health initiatives, such as medical outreach and wellness programs
- Counseling services to support spiritual and personal development
Our dedicated Imams and leadership team ensure that Masjid Jamiul Atiq remains a pillar of guidance, delivering authentic Islamic teachings and fostering a sense of belonging for all worshippers.
Masjid Jamiul Atiq is not just a mosque—it is a heritage, a home, and a source of spiritual upliftment for the Muslim community in Freetown and beyond.
